The textbook project was funded by a three-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education (2020–2023). Additional sponsorship for creating the materials and developing the website was obtained from the UT Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies; the UT Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies; and the Texas Language Center, also at the University of Texas at Austin. The website structure and the design were developed in collaboration with the Center for Open Educational Resources and Language Learning (COERLL) at the University of Texas at Austin. In 2019, the Language Teaching and Learning Research Grant from the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies at the University of Pittsburgh sponsored the initial research in developing open-access online materials for the textbook.
